The European Parliament rejects draft report on surrogacy

Publié le 16 Feb, 2017

Although the Committee on Legal Affairs called for a draft report on surrogacy, its proposal has been rejected by the European Parliament.

This kind of draft report “would have legitimised” surrogacy even though this practice is illegal in most Member States.

This decision seems to confirm the position adopted by the European Parliament on this matter, namely that “surrogacy is the exploitation of reproduction and the use of the human body for financial and other gains, especially in the case of vulnerable women in developing countries.  It should be banned and prioritised for consideration in legislation pertaining to human rights”[1].
